Igniting Collaboration Through Conversation: A Fireside Chat on Graduate Education

On March 7, 2026, the Audio-Visual Room of St. Paul University Dumaguete (SPUD) became a space for meaningful dialogue and shared vision as the Graduate School hosted a Fireside Chat centered on CHED Memorandum Order No. 15, Series of 2019—the national guidelines for graduate education in the Philippines.

The event was warmly hosted by Dr. Tichie Ann Baena and Dr. Ayeza Cathrina Tinagan, who facilitated an engaging and thoughtful conversation with Graduate School professors and distinguished guests from leading universities in the region.

Joining the discussion were Dr. LJ Lamboloto of Silliman University, Dr. Felipe Sullera Jr. of Foundation University, and Dr. Ryan Escorial of Negros Oriental State University. Their participation enriched the conversation as they shared their institutions’ perspectives, experiences, and best practices in implementing the provisions of CMO 15 and in strengthening the quality of graduate education.

Rather than a formal lecture, the fireside chat format created an open and reflective atmosphere where ideas flowed freely. The exchange of insights revealed both the unique strengths of each institution and the shared commitment to academic excellence.

More than a discussion of policies, the Fireside Chat became a meaningful platform for building connections among universities in the region. The dialogue emphasized that while institutions may operate independently, they are united In an academic landscape that continues to evolve, the gathering served as a reminder that when educators come together in genuine conversation, they ignite ideas, strengthen networks, and inspire a shared vision for the future of graduate education.
